Lehenga and Anarkali Stitching in Avadi Chennai — Everything You Need to Know Before You Order

Lehengas and anarkalis are two of the most requested garments at Mitaish Boutique in Avadi — for weddings, engagements, receptions, festivals, and college functions. But many customers come to us confused about the process — how long it takes, what fabric to bring, and what style will suit them best. This post answers all of it.

Lehenga Stitching — What You Need to Know

A lehenga has three components: the skirt (lehenga), the blouse (choli), and the dupatta. Each requires separate attention.

The Lehenga Skirt:
The skirt is the most fabric-intensive part. A full flared lehenga typically requires 5 to 8 metres of fabric depending on the number of layers and flare desired. The waistband must fit perfectly — too loose and it drops, too tight and it is uncomfortable for long events.

At Mitaish, we stitch both:

  • Simple layered lehengas — 2 to 3 layers with basic flare, ideal for college functions and casual occasions
  • Bridal lehengas — heavily layered with cancan underskirt for full flare, often with embellished border and waistband

The Choli (Blouse):
The choli follows the same precision process as a designer blouse. We treat every lehenga choli as a standalone blouse project — measuring carefully, fitting twice, and finishing to bridal standard if required. See our boutique services for the full range of blouse styles we offer.

Timeline for Lehenga Stitching:

  • Simple lehenga: 7 to 10 days
  • Bridal lehenga: 3 to 4 weeks minimum — do not order less than a month before your event

Anarkali Stitching — Styles and What Works Best

An anarkali is a long flared kurta, usually paired with churidar or palazzo pants and a dupatta. It is one of the most flattering silhouettes for Indian women because the flared body suits most body types.

Popular anarkali styles we stitch at Mitaish:

  • Simple cotton anarkali — casual, everyday wear, great for office and college
  • Georgette anarkali — flowing and elegant, ideal for functions and festivals
  • Floor-length anarkali — dramatic and stunning for receptions and sangeet nights
  • Double layered anarkali — structured with a separate inner layer, gives better flare and body

What fabric works best for anarkalis?

  • Georgette and chiffon for flowing styles
  • Cotton and linen for casual daily wear
  • Silk and brocade for festive and wedding occasions

At our Tailor's Supermarket in Avadi, we also stock running fabrics and dress materials if you need help sourcing the right fabric for your anarkali.
